K's blog - March 11th: Here already...

WOW!  Time sure has flown by since we began this challenge two months ago.  That feeling is quite a contrast from how we felt when we began this challenge back in January.  Two months seemed like such a long time to commit to diet and exercise, at least for us it did.  But we told ourselves that two months would pass by regardless of whether or not we chose to make ourselves priority this year.  So we took the plunge and are so glad we did.

I am unbelievably proud of what Laurie and I have been able to accomplish as a team during this short period of time.  Laurie lost 12.4 lbs and I was able to lose 26.8 lbs for a team total of 39.2 lbs.  As a matter of fact, we are proud of what ALL the teams have been able to accomplish during this challenge.  We all need to give ourselves a well deserved back on the (MUCH smaller) back!

We are so thankful to MSN and the Biggest Loser for sponsoring this challenge.  It came along at such a perfect time for us.  We plan to keep working hard until we reach our ultimate goals.  We will become fit and more importantly we will become healthy.  This challenge has been the perfect springboard for our future, which holds many great things for us as we work towards gaining our health back.

We have been inspired by so many of you out there.  We appreciate all the kind words that you have sent our way.   We have been mesmerized by the creativity that many of you have displayed in creating your web pages.  We are truly in awe of your talent.  This was our first time in creating a webpage and we were a bit intimidated by the process at first, but eventually we were able to come up with something that has been a great help to us.  Our web page has been such a great tool in helping us to be accountable to something larger than ourselves; the Million Pound Matchup Community.  The web pages that all of you created were not only creative, but being able to read about the struggles and triumphs of others has been pivotal in our success.  We have learned many helpful tips, found fabulous new recipes, and fun ways to exercise at work, just to name a few.  Thanks so much to all of you!

K's blog - Y finale

Well, the Y challenge is officially over.  I ended up losing 26.8 lbs for a total percentage loss of 10.75%.  I am so thrilled.  My goal was to lose 10% by the end of the challenge and I was able to surpass that goal.  As of the numbers from a week ago, I managed to move myself up to 12 place on the leaderboard.  I won't know where I ended up officially until March 22nd, when they announce the results.

Ending results (Laurie's blog)

Well as you read from Kathy's blog, we didn't get to way in until Saturday.  After the weigh in I was a little upset with myself, I thought I had gained.  Once I looked at all of my sheets from the previous weeks, I saw that I hadn't gained, but I had lost.  I am officially down 10.6lbs.  Woo Hoo!  However, I am not down as far as I could have been.  This is just the beginning.  I'm hoping that without the pressures of making sure that I lose a certain amount every week or two weeks, that I will do better about not getting upset with myself.  I can take it slow and easy and not try to lose it all in a week.  Thanks for all the support and good luck to everyone.

K's blog - end of week 9

Normally on Fridays, Laurie and I would be logging our weigh-in numbers from the Y.  However this week, our weigh-in is going to be on Saturday instead of today as it is the finale of the Get-Fit Topeka Challenge.  It's been really great to work on both of these challenges at the same time.  I am so thrilled with the progress I have made thus far.  This time of year it is particularly hard for me to get motivated to exercise.  It's cold outside, so why bother?  Well this year, I'll be ahead of the game when spring does finally get here (it's SNOWING today!) after losing 10% of my starting weight.  Who knows how much more weight I would have gained over the past two months without this tool to help to motivate me.  I'll really be ready are raring to go when I can get outside, I'll really racked up the steps then.

As I mentioned last week, I had a bone marrow biospy on Tuesday, which did limit my movement substantially this week.  However, I'm pleased to say that I did manage to think ahead abit and walked extra over the weekend.  Here are my totals for last week

2/29 - 10,283
3/01 - 18,530
3/02 - 10,349
3/03 -  7318
3/04 -  3009
3/05 -  3829
3/06 -  4407

Wish us luck tomorrow, we'll let you know next week how we did!
